Workers Who Died From Coronavirus, On-the-Job Violence Are Honored

Every year on Workers Memorial Day, workplace-safety advocates gather at the site where a New Yorker died on the job to mourn those killed or injured in the workplace. So it was fitting that this year’s April 28 event took place outside Elmhurst Hospital, which became the epicenter of the coronavirus crisis during the height of the pandemic last year.

Labor organizations, elected officials and other advocacy groups honored the essential workers who kept the city and state running while many offices and businesses were closed, often at the risk of being exposed to the virus.
