Transit-union leaders told a state legislative hearing Aug. 25 that they want the police to enforce New York State's mandatory face-mask requirement within Metropolitan Transportation Authority facilities to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
By late spring 131 MTA employees, the majority of them members of Transport Workers Union Local 100, died from COVID. More than 10,000 were quarantined and returned to work, and many have not reumed their jobs and are still dealing with health complications.
