Some tour guides and bus operators who were fired by Big Bus Tours, which suspended operations mid-March because of the coronavirus, feared that the company was moving to automate routes when the tours begin again.
Almost 200 tour guides and bus operators were terminated March 12 by the city’s largest tour-bus company, which has carried more than 1 million sight-seers visiting attractions in lower Manhattan, Harlem and Brooklyn. About 150 employees were temporarily laid off while 37 tour guides were permanently fired, according to staff.
