Judge Tosses City's Diaphragm Compression Law

In a victory for the NYPD and police unions, a Queens judge has invalidated a controversial city law that had prohibited officers from using a type of restraint while affecting arrests.

Calling it “unconstitutionally vague,” State Supreme Court Justice Laurence L. Love’s June 22 decision blocked enforcement of any of the statute’s provisions. But the decision could prove to be transitory: He urged the City Council to revisit what he called a "vital matter."
