State Bill Looks to Curb Cops' Use Of Force

Police officers who use deadly or even excessive force could face criminal prosecution in New York State if it is determined that they did not do so as a last resort, under legislation introduced May 21 by State Attorney General Letitia James. 

The Police Accountability Act would compel police to try other means, such as de-escalation, warnings and even walking away, before they turned to force.
