For years, municipal-union officials have warned that the city greatly increased the size of its vehicle fleet without hiring enough mechanics to keep the larger motor pool in good repair.
The de Blasio administration has consistently countered that based on the percentage of vehicles sidelined for repairs, it’s been doing better year over year with the existing headcount.
