Eleven city residents have filed suit against the city and the NYPD, alleging that officers used excessive force against them during May and June protests pushing for police reforms.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court Oct. 26, alleges that police actions violated the protesters’ constitutional rights to speech, expression and assembly, and protections against unreasonable searches and seizures. It named Mayor de Blasio, Commissioner Dermot Shea, Chief of Department Terence Monahan and dozens of NYPD officers.
