A May 4 news report quoted three people who said they were friends with both City Comptroller Scott Stringer and Jean Kim and contradicted key points of her story accusing him of sexually molesting her on more than one occasion in 2001 and implying he would get her a political job if she had sex with him.
The April 28 accusations by Ms. Kim had rocked Mr. Stringer's mayoral campaign at a time he was gaining momentum, costing him the endorsements of 18 progressive elected officials over the next two days, as well as that of the Working Families Party. Four mayoral candidates—Shaun Donovan, Kathryn Garcia, Dianne Morales and Maya Wiley—called for Mr. Stringer to withdraw from the race.
