Money makes the criminal-justice world go around. So concludes a report released last week by two organizations that advocate for alternatives to incarceration.
The report, by the Center for Community Alternatives and Citizen Action of New York, concluded that the power and influence, financial and otherwise, of law-enforcement unions “undeniably played a role in shaping the political landscape” that gave lawmakers the green light to dilute reforms they had enacted just months before.
