Union officials and workplace safety advocates are hailing the passage in the State Senate on March 1 of the HERO Act, which would extend the state's coronavirus workplace standards to all private-sector employers, with enforcement by the state Department of Labor.
"Too many workers have already sacrificed their health for the community's benefit," said Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris, one of the bill's lead sponsors. "The New York HERO Act will honor their efforts by giving workers the tools to protect themselves while on the job."
