James McCarthy, who had been treasurer of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, Sept. 1 was elected its president, replacing the retiring Jake Lemonda.
A second-generation firefighter with nearly 33 years on the job, Lieutenant McCarthy has held union positions for the past 28 years, going back to his days as a delegate for the Uniformed Firefighters Association before his promotion to his current rank in 2009.
