Mayor de Blasio's announcement in his Jan. 28 State of the City address that he plans to start returning employees who have been working remotely during the pandemic to their workplaces by mid-spring was greeted with concern by union officials, one of whom said meeting his five-million-vaccination target should come first.
"In May, we will begin to bring back the rest of our city workers—the public servants our city depends on—with a dedicated vaccination campaign," he said. "And, today, we are declaring a new goal. In June, we will reach a milestone—five million New Yorkers vaccinated. That is how we jump-start a recovery for all of us."
