Mayor de Blasio announced Nov. 18 that city public schools would close the following day due to rising COVID rates, but the late timing of the announcement added to the chaos and confusion of an already-rocky school year.
The city’s seven-day COVID positivity average reached exactly 3 percent, which he had previously established as the threshold that would trigger the interruption of in-person learning. The change affects about 280,000 students who have opted for blended-learning.
