The president of the Correction Officers Benevolent Association last week criticized Correction Commissioner Joseph Ponte over a slashing attack by one of Rikers Island’s most-violent inmates.
“Your administration has been held hostage by this one inmate, and neither you nor your uniformed managers have been able to protect correction officers, civilians or inmates from him,” COBA President Elias Husamudeen wrote to Mr. Ponte in a letter dated March 21.
