A Federal Judge has ruled that the lawyers representing Fire Department African-American civilian employees in a racial-discrimination lawsuit have presented sufficient evidence to support their claims of employment bias so that they can move on to the discovery phase.
U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken rejected the de Blasio administration’s motion to dismiss the case, noting the lawyers for the employees had produced “strong statistical evidence” as well as anecdotal accounts that it was “at least plausible” the alleged discrimination was the “result of systemic, intentional racial bias.”
