Bearing signs featuring re-creations of the iconic Rosie The Riveter illustration and phrases like “all work and no pay makes Jill an oppressed girl” and clad in bright red, a coalition including elected officials joined members of Communications Workers of America Local 1180 April 4 outside City Hall to commemorate the 11th annual Equal Pay Day.
Advocates said the rally both recognized how far New York has come on gender-equality issues and highlighted what still needed to be done. It was held as the City Council looked to vote on two bills that would change the way women were paid.
