Investments in hiring full-time faculty and expanding tuition assistance for part-time students at the City University of New York were among the funding initiatives in Governor Hochul’s Fiscal Year 2023 executive budget that indicated that she “is taking higher-education seriously,” according to the head of the Professional Staff Congress.
The PSC, as part of the higher-education advocate group CUNY Rising Alliance, has been pushing for the adoption of legislation known as the New Deal for CUNY. The bill, if passed, would require the system to hire 5,000 full-time faculty and restore free tuition over a five-year period.
