HA's Ready to Train Workers to Correct Heat Outages Faster

Heating Plant Technicians, Maintenance Workers and other staff within the Housing Authority’s Management Services Department will begin training to improve response times to heating outages as part of a plan that the Federal Monitor charged with overseeing repairs at the agency announced Dec. 5.

A deal reached in late January among the city, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office meant to address unsafe and unsanitary conditions at NYCHA required the agency to submit by Oct. 1 an “Action Plan” that demonstrated how the agency would respond to heating outages and speed repair times. NYCHA tenants have faced widespread outages during frigid temperatures thanks to aging and malfunctioning boilers.
