Slightly more than eight months remains until next June's Democratic gubernatorial primary, but an early poll showing Governor Hochul with comfortable leads over both two and three potential challengers indicated that two of those candidates whose strengths figure to be among progressives, black voters and Brooklynites would take support from each other if both ran.
This was particularly evident in the Marist Poll's survey based on a three-candidate race. Ms. Hochul led State Attorney General Letitia James by 44 percent to 28 percent among 822 people who responded between Oct. 4 and 7, with Public Advocate Jumaane Williams at 15 percent, and 13 percent undivided.
