First Debate: Adams Plays Rope-a-Dope, Sliwa Fails to Land

Less than two weeks before Election Day, and two days before early voting would begin, Eric Adams entered his first debate with Curtis Sliwa with huge leads in the polls, party registration and campaign cash, meaning if he merely avoided any major gaffes, it would amount to a win.

Mr. Sliwa tried to do damage by tying his Democratic opponent to Mayor de Blasio at every opportunity, and when not chiding him for his connections to a Mayor he said had discouraged cops from proactive policing, hammered him for having as one of his main supporters former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, "who abused stop, question and frisk."
