Nearly a year after the city’s public-hospital system applied for Federal reimbursement for coronavirus costs, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to pay $620 million, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Ritchie Torres announced Sept. 15.
Last October, NYC Health + Hospitals sought reimbursement for $860 million in costs associated with COVID, including funds to hire staff and expand capacity. The city’s 11 public hospitals became the epicenter of the pandemic during the spring of 2020.
