A Federal Judge has denied KIPP Academy Charter School’s bid to block arbitration of claims by KIPP’s unionized staff.
The decision affects about 80 staff members in the South Bronx location of the charter network, which has 11 schools. Staff are represented by the United Federation of Teachers, which filed grievances last summer for contract violations that included failing to provide Teachers summer-vacation pay and an appropriate number of sick days. KIPP has an employee contract that differs from the UFT pact covering public-school teachers.
