A Federal Judge Aug. 12 denied a request by the Professional Staff Congress to force the City University of New York to rehire thousands of adjunct instructors laid off earlier this summer under provisions in the Federal stimulus program known as the CARES Act to keep as many employees as possible on payroll during the coronavirus pandemic.
The union filed the lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court last month after CUNY, which was allocated $251 million in Federal COVID-19 aid under the CARES Act, sent non-reappointment letters to almost 2,900 adjuncts.
