EMS Employees First in FDNY To Receive Virus Vaccine

The Fire Department Dec. 23 oversaw its initial coronavirus vaccinations at three locations for the members of the Emergency Medical Service, with firefighters to begin getting the vaccine Dec. 29.

The department will be administering the Moderna vaccine, which, with a slightly longer gap between injections than the Pfizer vaccine, requires a booster shot 28 days after the initial one. An FDNY source said that the Moderna formulation was a better "logistical fit" for the department because it does not require subfreezing storage in the field.
