The protests demanding police accountability that have erupted nationwide since the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis officer could turn out to have been the galvanizing factor for New York legislators who for years have tried to overturn a state law that has kept officers’ personnel and disciplinary records from public view.Â
Momentum to change or even repeal the law gained additional drive when Governor Cuomo last week said he would sign any bill that lawmakers put before him.
