District Council 37 retirees who were enrolled in Medicare before 2016 are owed hundreds of dollars because they were underpaid when they received a refund of the Medicare charge deducted from their pensions last year, according to the union’s Retirees Association.
Retirees receiving Medicare benefits once a year receive a reimbursement of the charges deducted from their pensions during the previous year. The underpayment was caused by an increase in rates that retirees paid for Medicare Part B in 2016.
