A leading critic of bullying in city firehouses was suspended from the City Council Oct. 28 for permitting his legislative offices to become a place where his staff lived “in a culture of fear.”
By a vote of 44 to 1, with 2 abstentions, Bronx Council Member Andy King was suspended for 30 days and had his office placed under the scrutiny of an outside monitor. The sanctions, which came with a $15,000 fine, were levied after the Council’s Committee on Standards and Ethics substantiated allegations that he obstructed an internal Council investigation, retaliated against staff members who cooperated with that probe, regularly violated the city’s conflict-of-interest rules and misdirected public funds for his own benefit.
