The City Council passed a series of bills Aug. 13 aimed at improving services for clients at city benefits and job centers in response to the controversial arrest of a Brooklyn mother at a benefits center late last year.

The Human Resources Administration, which serves 3 million residents who receive Medicaid, rental assistance and other forms of public aid, will be required to report the number of arrests, summonses, removals and use-of-force incidents that take place in a city job center or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program office. It must also create a unit to review public assistance cases that had been or were about to be closed.
