City Pay Data Shows Major Gaps Based On Race, Gender

Even the municipal workforce can’t escape the wage gap, according to data submitted to the City Council under a law to address racial and gender pay disparities among city employees.

The Council analyzed the salaries of 180,000 full-time city workers and found that on average, black city workers earned $7,600 a year less than white employees, according to a report released Oct. 29. Latinos earned $8,700 a year less than non-Latino workers, while Asian employees were paid about $6,500 less than whites. Men also made about $4,500 more than women.
