Word of Andy Byford’s resignation Jan. 23 as the president of New York City Transit was met with disappointment and concern as to what his exit would mean for a system that has made significant progress since his arrival in January of 2018 but still has a long way to go.
During the past two years, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority saw a significant improvement in service, with weekday on-time performance exceeding the 80-percent level for the first time in six years as delays dropped by over 40 percent, from averaging 58,000 per month to 34,000.
