Just days before a federally supervised vote count began in what proved an unsuccessful attempt to organize a union at its distribution center in Bessemer, Ala., Amazon was cited by the National Labor Relations Board for illegally firing two of its most-prominent in-house critics.
The pair, Emily Cunningham and Maren Costa, who worked at its Seattle headquarters as designers, were terminated last April after they expanded their earlier protests of Amazon's failure to adequately address climate change to also focus on job conditions at its warehouses soon after the coronavirus began taking its toll.
