A Rikers Island inmate has been indicted for attempted murder, assault and other charges for attacking a Department of Correction Officer in the jail, the office of Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said.

Raphael Davlos, 29, was arraigned July 11 on several assault charges, including attempt aggravated assault on a Peace Officer, as well as strangulation and weapons counts, and other charges. Mr. Davlos is due back in court on October 2.

He is said to have choked the Correction Officer on June 19 at the Anna M. Kross Center by wrapping a sweater sleeve around her neck. When she tried to escape she fell to the floor and the defendant put his hands on the Officer’s neck and choked her. He then allegedly wrapped the sweater around her neck again and continued to strangle her. Other inmates pulled Davlos off of the Officer.
