In accepting the mayoral endorsement of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association April 13, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams lauded firefighters' bravery dating back to 9/11 and said they symbolized "the blue-collar spirit I'm running behind."
While his working-class background as someone who spent 25 years as a cop and rose to Captain in the NYPD has been a recurring theme of Mr. Adams's campaign, he looked to sharpen his message, standing outside a Borough Park firehouse that is home to Engine Co. 282 and Ladder Co. 148, as the one candidate among the perceived top contenders who both knows and appreciates what police officers do and the obstacles they face.
