• City: In person (except where specified), 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Saturday (except holidays), De­part­ment of Citywide Administrative Services, Manhattan Application Center, 2 Lafayette St., 17th floor, New York, N.Y. 10007, or Brooklyn Application Center, 210 Joralemon St., 4th floor, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11201, or Queens Application Center, 118-35 Queens Boulevard, 5th Floor, Forest Hills, NY 11375, or 135 Canal Street, 3rd Floor, Staten Island, NY 10304. Apply on-line or download examination notices here. Mail requests for applications must be received at DCAS Application Unit, 1 Centre St., 14th floor, New York, N.Y. 10007, with self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope no la­ter than seven days before the filing deadline. Applications must be returned by mail postmarked on or before the filing deadline. Filing fees range from $40 to $101, depending on title and salary, and are payable online by credit or bank card, or by money order only if applying by mail.

• CUNY: By the close of the filing period, applicants must complete the entire application either online or on paper. Online applications are strongly recommended. Applications are not accepted in person at any CUNY school. Information on upcoming exams is available here. Filing fees vary; see the notice of exam for more information.

• MTA NYCT/MABSTOA: In person (except where specified), 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, at MTA NYCT/MABSTOA, Division of Human Resources, 180 Liv­ing­ston St. (Lobby), Brooklyn N.Y. 11201. Apply online or download examination notices here. Promotional exams may be applied for online on the employee intranet. Filing fees range from $40 to $101, depending on title and salary. If you apply on the Internet, you can pay the filing fee with a bank card, credit card or prepaid debit card. If you apply by mail, you must use a money order made out to MTA NYC Transit (Exams).

• NASSAU COUNTY: To view examination announcements, click here. Applications can also be obtained in person at the Civil Service Commission office at 40 Main St., Hempstead, N.Y. 11550, 9 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Monday-Friday, or requested by mail at the same address. Application fees must be paid by money order or certified bank check. The fee is generally $40. Most jobs are restricted to Nassau County residents.

• SUFFOLK COUNTY: To view exam announcements or to download an application form, click here. You must have a credit card (VISA or MasterCard) to apply for a job online.

• WESTCHESTER COUNTY: Administers exams for jobs with the county and with some localities in the county. Examination announcements and application forms are available here. Forms also may be picked up at or mailed to the Westchester County De­part­ment of Human Resources, Suite 100, Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Ave., White Plains, N.Y. 10601. Application fees ($40 per test) are payable by check or money order.

• STATE: In person, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, New York State Civil Service Department Community Outreach Center, 163 West 125th St., Manhattan, telephone (212) 961-4326, and at Labor Department Community Service Centers. Mail requests to New York State Department of Civil Service, Albany, N.Y. 12239, telephone (518) 457-6216. Filing fees range from $15 to $60. Information also is available here.

• State Court System: To view examination announcements and submit an application, please go here. There is a $30 filing fee for open-competitive exams and no filing fee for promotion exams. Applications may only be submitted during the open filing period for an exam electronically.

• Federal: Information about job openings and how to apply is available here. Job listings generally contain a phone number to call for information.

• Postal Service: Information on available jobs can be found here. Most job announcements will have a tele­phone number or e-mail address if you need more information.
