TWU: Subway Suicides Being Stored in Break Rooms for Employees

A top Transport Workers Union Local 100 official said that interim storage of the human remains of subway suicide victims in employee break/lunch rooms, lockers and employee restrooms is a longstanding concern for his members.

“They remove the body to the first room available, and it has been going on for years,” said Derrick Echevarria, the union’s vice president for stations. “We brought this up at our last safety meeting with management. We had one case where a member walked in and encountered a body in a bathroom without warning and had to go home for the day. This does cause lost time.”
