Kenneth Wynder, the former president of the Law Enforcement Employees Benevolent Association, was sentenced Wednesday to 40 months in prison for defrauding his union and its members of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Wynder was found guilty in Manhattan federal court following a May jury trial of colluding with LEEBA colleagues to swindle money from the union’s annuity fund in a scheme that lasted about nine years. The former New York State trooper, who founded the union in 2002, used the proceeds to buy a Lexus and to fund a weekend trip to Dallas for a Giants football game, a second apartment for himself in Astoria, clothing and other items.
