Council will take up legislation that would preserve city retirees’ current health care

But DC 37 head threatens to nix endorsements for bill's backers

The contentious and protracted effort by successive mayoral administrations to shift retired municipal workers into a private Medicare health-care plan could get an up and down vote in the City Council. 

Brooklyn Council Member Charles Barron on Thursday introduced legislation that would oblige the city to offer the roughly 250,000 retirees the option of a Medigap supplemental insurance plan at no cost, essentially preserving health plans currently available to them.
