Built nearly 10 years ago, P.S. 62 in Staten Island’s Rossville neighborhood is still ahead of its time. City Council members want others to catch up.
Also known as the Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability, P.S. 62 was the state’s first so-called “net-zero” elementary school when its 450 or so pupils first walked through its doors in the fall of 2015. Since then, the 1,997 solar panels affixed on the exterior of the 69,000-square-foot facility have produced all the energy needed to power the all-electric school.
