Are you better off?

To the editor:

Which Trump policies that brought that peace and prosperity to the American people are so upsetting to Michael Gorman (“Swear him in,” The Chief, May 3) and Joseph Cannisi (“Hush up,” The Chief, April 26). The highest employment and lowest unemployment numbers in history and higher wages for workers.

The list goes on: reduced illegal immigration, NATO nations paying their share, new deals with Canada and Mexico, brokering peace deals with Israel and their neighbors, making U.S. energy independent and having Russia China and North Korea behave? Or was it just his tweets while being attacked daily by the Democrats, the media or being falsely investigated by the FBI.

Of course our present puppet, President Joe Biden, has managed to crash the housing market with higher mortgage rates, opened the borders for millions of undocumented immigrants who are bankrupting cities, and brought about higher costs for food heating electricity and almost deleting the strategic reserve of crude oil and refusing to replenish it.

Are we better off today than four years ago? No, we are not!

Trump did nothing to create the economy that he inherited from Obama and, in fact, tried his best to erase all signs of his predecessor. Where's the beautiful health care plan? He dismantled the apparatus in place to mitigate the effects of a nationwide health emergency. How about infrastructure week? Now show me how those indefinite tax cuts to the wealthy have paid for themselves. Full Republican control of both chambers of Congress and no immigration legislation. Tariffs to China that hurt American farmers so bad that he had to pay them to keep their loyalty. The list goes on and on. I'll also remind you that private industry is solely responsible for the cost of housing, goods, and services...not the government. I mean, after all, they have to keep their profit margin high even if it means off-shoring good paying jobs here in the USA to cheaper labor and materials markets overseas. If you want to complain about the cost of living, let's start there. As usual, defenders of the former president easily overlook privatization of profits and socialization to taxpayers of costs. It's the reason why some companies pay their employees so poorly that they qualify for SNAP (food stamps) and Medicaid. Yes, we are better of than four years ago because now we know how much damage we avoided by voting for President Biden who cares about what happens to all of us, not just the well-off and, once again, it will take a Democrat to repair the damage of a Republican presidency and, as with many things, the repair will not happen as quickly as the damage.

Despite what you say, we are better of now than under Trump. We were the laughingstock of the world under Trump. He failed the country with his response to the pandemic. Inject bleach? UV rays? Are you kidding. And the phony tax cuts law only benefitted the rich. The republicans had their chance when they were in full control of all government and they failed the American people. The republicans complain about immigration but they had their chance to do something about it but they did not. The bipartisan immigration bill should have been passed as a boon to all of America, but the republicans did not want to give Biden a win. He instigated the attack on the US Capital and is an election denier. There is only fraud when republicans lose. He and his cronies tried to steal the election. Prepare for 4 years of chaos and insanity if he is reelected. He has been indicted more than once for his criminal acts. He stole classified documents and left them lying around his home. This is the person you want to lead the US? No way.

Mr. Curley exhibits the selective amnesia of Trump

supporters. Perhaps women were better off four years ago if they

sought an abortion, thanks to Trump’s Supreme Court picks. But

four years ago we were in the throes of a pandemic. More than one million Americans l

perished due to his mismanagement of the COVID crisis. Trump even received a vaccine in secret. What do you say to the dead, Mr. Curley?
