The Aug. 28 debate between the four Democratic candidates for State Attorney General featured one predictable target—President Trump—and one somewhat-unexpected one—Zephyr Teachout.
Polls earlier this summer showed Public Advocate Letitia James as the clear front-runner, if hardly a decisive one: more than half those surveyed were undecided. Ms. Teachout, a Fordham University Law Professor who wrote a well-reviewed book on corruption not long ago, was in a close battle for second with U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, while Leecia Eve, a civil-rights attorney who has held staff positions with key officials including former Vice President Joe Biden, lagged behind.
