The Aug. 24 “For The Record” column made much of President Donald Trump signing the John McCain defense bill while not mentioning McCain. But there’s no questioning why we should be spending $717 billion on defense when China is the only other country spending over $100 billion.
All recent listings of defense spending have one thing in common; that is what Sen. Rand Paul mentioned in 2016 Republican primary debate: our defense budget is greater than the next nine countries combined. Of course, Paul got booed for being truthful.
