The New York City Veterans Day Parade is a reminder to everyone that the right message is really “Never forget” instead of “Thanks for your service” (as stated by Congressman-Elect and former Navy Seal Dan Crenshaw on SNL).
We Vietnam vets thought that the only good to come out of that war was that our political leaders wouldn’t make the same mistakes again. But then along came George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, and we made the same deadly mistakes again in Iraq. Or as Yogi might have said, it was “Deja vu all over again,” but not so funny, since human lives came second to pure politics.
