Trump Never Got Swift

The ruthless Trump solution to the immigration issue at our Southern border might remind us of the writings of probably the greatest satirist in history, Jonathan Swift.

In “A Modest Proposal For Preventing the Children of Poor People From Being a Burden to Their Parents or Country, and For Making Them Beneficial to the Public,” Swift makes this “modest suggestion” for easing the burden on poor Irish families: “A young, healthy child, well nursed, is, at a year old, a most delicious, nourishing and healthy food, whether stewed, roasted, baked or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout.”
