Governor Cuomo has made many recent public statements expressing an intent to use his legislative authority to modify the way New York State collects taxes in response to the new Federal tax bill. At minimum, there will be legislation to decouple and remove reference to Federal tax deductions in the New York State tax code to allow historic deductions on your NYS tax return for things such as property tax, without limitation.
Another unfairness in the state tax code exists that penalizes New York City government workers and should also be corrected. Our legislators should use the current review of the New York State tax code to make things right.
