Oh No, Not Cuomo Again

When Andrew Cuomo describes himself as “a progressive who gets things done,” it reminds me of what Oscar Levant said about Doris Day: “I knew her before she was a virgin.” Before the Governor was a progressive, he wasn’t so progressive, and important legislation in Albany has yet to get done.

Mr. Cuomo apparently has no political philosophy or principles, except winning primary and general elections by as large a margin as possible. Policy positions, such as family leave, minimum wage, marijuana use, Democratic Party control of the State Senate, and even criticisms of President Trump, sometimes have changed within days or weeks. These reversals seem to be based on what the latest polls said, who his primary opponent was, and whether the Democratic base had shifted.
