Local 375 Vote Redux

In its column, last week titled “Creative DC 37 Ideas Fire Up Old Suspicions,” THE CHIEF got most of its facts right. However, there is one particular fact that the newspaper continues to get wrong, over and over. This letter is to set the record straight.

No funds or resources of Local 375 were used for campaigning, producing or distributing campaign materials during the 2015-2016 Local 375 elections. That never happened. During the election-protest hearings, it was revealed that emails coming from chapter 8 were sent to the Local 375 members through their work email addresses. Chapter 8 is an autonomous chapter, under the leadership and control of chapter president Harry Donas. During the hearings, President Donas claimed his vice-president had control of the chapter’s email site. The vice-president claimed that President Donas had control of the chapter and the chapter funds, which were used to pay for the site, and the payments were made with Harry’s credit card. It was an internal chapter issue. The local and I did not have any control over chapters’ email site or funds.
