I wonder when, if ever, GOP legislators will pay a political price for their lies.
President Reagan sold the American people the lie that tax cuts pay for themselves through economic growth. Yet, when this lie was exposed by a deep recession a few years after Mr. Reagan’s cuts and an exponential increase in the National Debt, it had little effect on the GOP brand. In fact, President Reagan is revered in conservative-voter circles and enshrined in the myth that his policies created tremendous growth, despite the economy growing much faster in terms of GDP, wages and employment under President Clinton (who raised taxes) than it did under Mr. Reagan (who cut them).
