We are now 22 years into the forced union between EMS and Fire and it is time for an annulment. These two very separate and different jobs are unable to co-exist any longer.
The FDNY through gross mismanagement has not addressed any needs that we in EMS have not only to do our jobs effectively but to be able to surviveĀ livingĀ in NYC and raising a family. The FDNY has made it clear that its only priority is to fill and diversify the firefighter ranks, essentially turning EMS into a version of a 911 minor league, all that time disregarding a truly diversified EMS workforce and its needs.
