“Character education” is the latest feel-good gimmick to worm its way into the consciousness and vocabulary of curriculum developers.

The idea that focusing on character, essentially consisting of bombarding self-esteem promiscuously into every psyche (no matter of whom or why), and academic growth are linked is a groundless, irksome and potentially-perilous theory of progressive education. It certainly lends itself to misinterpretation.
