There would seem to be a distinct irony to the developments that prompted Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro to remove four Fire Lieutenants, two Captains and two Firefighters from a firehouse in Flatlands, Brooklyn in connection with the alleged harassment of Firefighter Raheem Hassan.

Regina Wilson, the president of the Vulcan Society of black firefighters, last week said the problems had been going on for two years, but the issue did not come to a head, and spur action by Mr. Nigro, until one of the transferred Lieutenants, David Hughes, called police after a phone conversation in which Firefighter Hassan allegedly said, ā€œIā€™m going to kill the guys in the firehouse.ā€
